Katy grew up outside Winston-Salem, North Carolina and received her Bachelors in Science in Business Administration and Masters in Accounting from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a Senior Vice President at Bank of America. Throughout the years, she has served in various volunteer capacities, including with the Junior League of Charlotte, where she volunteered with Kindermourn. She served on the board of Christ Church Kindergarten and held various board positions at Eastover Elementary, including chairing the school’s tutoring committee. 

Katy met Laura when their oldest sons, Bryant and Wells, were preschoolers. They played various early-year sports together, including a Charlotte Junior Soccer team where Bryant scored his first goal as a 4 year old. Despite soccer ultimately not being his favorite sport, he celebrated that goal with as much enthusiasm and passion as any toddler athlete could, and his athleticism and sportsmanship were apparent early on. The McDermotts and Harveys have been connected ever since, with Katy’s husband, Matt, and Brick sharing a love of golf, and finding their families to be great friends and traveling companions. Since then, they have spent many July 4ths together in Atlantic Beach, vacations to Florida and countless family dinners turned into boys' sleepovers, followed by Bryant’s favorite Bojangles the next morning. Wells and Simmons are also thick as thieves and share a love of roller coasters and waterparks, convincing their families to travel to amusement parks across the Southeast to experience all the thrills.

No one could make any situation fun quite like Bryant could - his laugh and smile will live on forever in many hearts. The Harveys hope to Live like Bryant by being intentional about bringing friends together and embracing all new experiences with a sense of joy.
