Katie grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  From a young age, she looked up to her older sister, Laura McDermott. She spent most of her childhood following in the footsteps of her parents and two older siblings, Brian and Laura, either playing every sport imaginable, or attending games in Chapel Hill. Katie went on to play Field Hockey at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she studied studio arts. Motivated by her love for the outdoors, after college Katie spent two years in Jackson Hole, WY. There, she met her husband, Chapman. After leaving Wyoming, Katie recognized her need to incorporate creativity into her career path. She has worked in many different creative fields including, graphic design, interior decorating, textiles, painting, and most recently working as an elementary art teacher. Katie, Chapman and their three kids, Miller (13), Maggie (12) and Tripp (10) love to travel with their cousins, play sports, hike, and go to as many UNC games as possible.
